Pillar of Ice

You stand there proud and arrogant

but I know you hurt inside

Your eyes are hard and callous

and the twinkle there has died.

I stand here weak and humble

as I watch you drift away;

My eyes are moist and sad

as I see your cruel display.

We stand together awkwardly

as strangers who’ve just met

Our love is dying slowly

but the battle’s not over yet.

Our love has become a pillar of ice

exposed to wind and rain;

But soon the melting sun will come

and we shall love again. ©
