Goodbye

One last chance to say I love you,

a brief moment to say goodbye

I knew someday you’d leave me,

But I didn’t think you’d die.

For many years, our souls, they touched,

So many times we talked

Through all my tiny footsteps

it was you, with me who walked.

I begged for us to bridge the gap

that kept us far apart

I prayed one day you’d come for me

and fill my empty heart.

Silence prevailed when you needed me,

Your side, I would’ve been by

to hold your hand and make you smile

for this, the tears I cry.

When at night I look up at the stars

and see you watch over me

I know that I’ll have peace of mind

God’s finally set you free.

Thank you for the memories I’ll have

Thank you for your love

and for the time we had together,

I thank the Lord above. ©
